The origins of Skaane are shrouded in mystery. Runes discovered in southern Sweden suggest that Vikings played some version of this game, but little has been written—and little is known—about Skaane. Skaane (pronounced "skah-nay") is a head-to-head strategy game that takes place on a standard 8x8 board and uses four pawn types, each represented by a different rune. Players take turns advancing their pieces and capturing their opponent's. The first player to move one of their pawns across the board wins.
