Kreel Manor: The Citadel of Horrors - A Card Adventure in the World of Kilforth

The deeper the heroes venture into the citadel, the fewer right choices remain - and the more costly every mistake becomes.

What is Kreel Manor: The Dungeon Crawl Card Game?

Kreel Manor is a card-driven adventure from Tristan Hall and Hall or Nothing Productions. Hall is also known for games such as Gloom of Kilforth, 1066, Tears to Many Mothers, and Veilwraith. The adventure takes players through a dangerous and mysterious citadel, where they must explore locations, confront enemies, develop their hero, and decide which path to take as the campaign unfolds. The online version on Tabletopia supports 1-3 players, with games lasting from 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Kreel Manor is a prequel to Veilwraith and part of the Kilforth universe. Its events take place before the end of the world, when the land is still filled with colour and life. A final alliance of heroes learns of a possible breach in the Veil between worlds that could unleash an ancient demonic plague upon Kilforth. Their trail leads to the dangerous citadel of Kreel Manor.

The game features three heroes: the Wolf of the North, the War Mage, and the Night Raven. Each offers a distinct playstyle: one relies on direct confrontation, another uses magic, while the third prefers to operate from the shadows.

Every playthrough becomes its own story. Players must not only deal with threats, but also choose between different courses of action that can change how the campaign develops. Some decisions provide new resources or allies, while others open new paths or, instead, make the journey ahead more difficult.

How does Kreel Manor work?

At the heart of Kreel Manor are three ways of dealing with threats - Fight, Influence, and Sneak. Each Threat has its own values for these approaches, so the best solution depends on both the enemy and the hero's current capabilities.

Each round consists of six phases - Delve, Threat, Draw, Play, Spirit, and End. The hero progresses through the current Location, a new Threat enters the Shadows, and a Skill is drawn before the player takes their turn. They can strengthen an Action, deal with a Threat, play Skills, or activate abilities on available cards.

Skills, Assets, and Power expand the hero's options, making it important to choose the right approach rather than simply relying on the strongest attack.

The main resource is Spirit. Remaining Threats reduce it at the end of the round, and reaching zero means defeat. If the Threat deck runs out, the invulnerable Lord's Vengeance enters the game, increasing the pressure on the hero.

How do story choices affect the Kreel Manor campaign?

In Kreel Manor, the story develops alongside the player's decisions. Different encounters can lead to different consequences, opening new opportunities, changing the hero's circumstances, or sending them down another path.

The campaign consists of five Adventures. After the Great Hall of Kreel, players can choose between several routes, including the Grand Keep of Malistra, the Epicurean Banqueting Hall, and the Haunted Ballroom. As a result, different playthroughs can lead to different sequences of Adventures.

The hero also develops throughout the campaign. Successful Adventures allow players to improve Skills and Actions, while defeat leaves Wounds and may force the hero to repeat an Adventure. The journey through Kreel Manor is therefore shaped by the player's decisions, successes, and mistakes.

For whom is Kreel Manor: The Dungeon Crawl Card Game?

Kreel Manor is a good fit for players who enjoy solo and cooperative adventures featuring exploration, character development, and meaningful story choices. It should particularly appeal to fans of card-based dungeon crawls where victory depends not only on the hero's strength, but also on managing threats, resources, and the consequences of your own decisions.

For those who want to discover Kreel Manor, the game is already available on Tabletopia. You can step straight into the dark corridors of the citadel and experience how exploration, story choices, and character development work in practice. And if the adventure draws you in, the full campaign is waiting to be explored.

Kreel Manor has an additional reason to attract attention today. Wyvern Moor: The Dungeon Crawl Card Game is currently presented on Kickstarter as a standalone sequel to Kreel Manor. The new project returns players to the world of Kilforth and offers a separate adventure in a familiar format.
