Game Overview

The main objective of Cat Sudoku: Summer Festival is to place numbered and colored cards on a 3x3 grid in such a way that each number and color is unique within its row and column.

But that’s not all! Throughout the game, you also collect reserve tokens and strive to position your cards in a special scoring zone to accumulate points and outpace your opponents.

Each new move can dramatically change the game's dynamics, and strategic card usage and reserve management will be crucial to your success. As the deck depletes, the challenges become more complex, and every player aims to score as many points as possible. Cat Sudoku is the perfect choice for a cozy family evening or a relaxing solo gaming experience. Hold tournaments with friends or immerse yourself in a world of puzzles alone—this festival promises unforgettable moments and joy for everyone!

How to Play

• Draw a card and placeit!  Start your turn by drawing a card from the deck and placing it on the grid, following the Sudoku rules: each card must have a unique color and number in its row and column. After successfully placing a card, place the host figure (meeple) on it, adding a visually appealing element. If your card meets special placement conditions, you can earn a valuable reserve token that will become your trump card in the next round!

• Manage your reserve. If placing a card on the grid is impossible or undesirable, add it to your reserve. Later, you can play it by spending two reserve tokens, allowing you to apply strategy in the future. Mastering your reserve management becomes key to staying ahead in the competition and achieving victory. Use your reserve wisely to not only protect your position but also create new opportunities to attack your opponents!

• Scoring. The winner will be the player who accumulates the highest number of points from the cards in their scoring zone. But be careful: cards left in reserve may cost you points, so thoughtful reserve management becomes a vital element of strategy. In the case of a tie, the player with the most reserve tokens wins, making every decision you make critical and meaningful!

• Advanced Scoring. To add extra challenges, you can use a stack-based scoring system. Players earn bonus points for forming stacks of two or three cards, making the game even more thrilling! Create strategies, combine cards, and enjoy the expanded rules that make each game unique!

Each time you add a new player, the stakes get higher, and the strategy deepens. With every new player comes their own scoring column, creating a dynamic landscape where every move can either bolster your score or inadvertently assist your opponents.

Unlike four-player games where scoring columns overlap, each player has their own dedicated space to shine. To combat crowding, we introduce a vibrant purple card suit for higher player counts, giving you even more strategic options. No matter how many players join, the game flows quickly, keeping everyone engaged. Just remember to be cautious around the corners when playing with four; they’re shared spaces, and you won't be the only one vying for those points!

Master Your Strategy!

• Maximize Your Scoring Potential: Aim to fill your scoring column with as many cards as you can during your turn. In basic scoring mode, each card earns you a point, so the more you play, the more you score. It’s that simple!

• Outsmart Your Opponents: Turn the tables on your fellow players by strategically placing cards that hinder their moves. If you can position cards to block them from playing effectively, you’ll gain the upper hand. Forcing them to either stash cards in their Reserve (leading to negative points) or inadvertently placing them in your scoring area is a win-win for you!

• Keep Reserves Ready: Always maintain at least two Reserve Tokens. This flexibility allows you to adapt quickly and offload a Reserve Card when necessary, keeping your strategy fluid and effective.

• Avoid Carelessness: Stay sharp! Mistakes can lead to unintentional giveaways of Reserve Tokens to your opponents. Playing carelessly isn't just a slip-up; it could mean the difference between victory and defeat.

• Observe Your Opponents: Keep a close eye on the Reserve Cards of other players. By playing your cards strategically, you can potentially block their optimal moves. If they’re hoarding yellow cards, place yours in a way that limits their options and maximizes your advantage!

• Weigh Your Options: Sometimes, it’s worth it to give your opponents a point if it means you can gain Reserve Tokens. Remember, each Reserve Card could translate to three points for you, while your opponent gaining a token might only give them three as well. It's a calculated risk that often pays off!

• Stay Aware of the Deck: Be mindful of how many cards remain in the deck. If you’re holding onto Reserve Cards, make sure you’re not left empty-handed when the game draws to a close.
