Tank Clash: Eastern Front - A Tank Duel on the Eastern Front

The Eastern Front was a brutal testing ground for tanks, where breakthroughs, strong positions, and timing could decide a battle.

What Is Tank Clash: Eastern Front?

Tank Clash: Eastern Front is a standalone two-player board game about tank battles on the Eastern Front during the final years of World War II. It is published by Ameba Games, known for games such as Bad Boss 2, the family game Grab Your Breakfast, and the tactical game Cheesar's Arena.

The battlefield brings together Soviet T-34s, IS-2s, and SU-100s with German StuG IIIs, Tiger IIs, and Nashorns. The designers did not aim to create a historical simulation. The rules state directly that gameplay takes priority over technical and historical accuracy.

The game continues the Tank Clash series and is compatible with Tank Clash: Western Front. The two boxes can be combined into one larger four-player game. In this format, the battlefield can feature 20 tanks. New elements from Eastern Front, including events, smoke, and mines, can also be used in Western Front.

The core idea is simple: every tank has its own firepower, armor, and speed values. At the same time, the opposing sides are deliberately balanced. Choosing Germany or the Soviet Union does not give players a predetermined advantage.

How Does the Tank Clash System Work?

In Tank Clash: Eastern Front, each player receives five tanks: three medium tanks, one heavy tank, and one tank destroyer. Before the game begins, both sides deploy their vehicles on their respective halves of a modular battlefield containing bases and control points.

Each turn gives a player two actions. They can be spent on movement or attacks. A player can move one tank and then attack with it, or use the two actions with different tanks. The same tank cannot move or attack twice during a single turn.

Terrain affects what tanks can do. Forests conceal vehicles and limit detection, damaged forests reduce attack effectiveness, while buildings and other obstacles can block line of sight. Control points become important positions on the map. Capturing one provides a morale card, while a tank occupying a control point gains a defensive advantage.

Attacks are resolved by rolling several dice, with the best result determining the outcome. Successful results can remove armor or cause damage, while a poor result can force a tank to retreat. Once a tank runs out of armor, the next successful hit destroys it.

What Strategy Works on the Eastern Front?

In Tank Clash, simply finding the enemy and opening fire is not enough. The position of each tank determines who can gain the first advantage. A forest can hide a vehicle until the right moment, while a control point can help secure a strong position. A bad maneuver, however, can leave a tank exposed.

It is also important to divide the two actions between your vehicles. One tank can take up a position while another creates a threat with an attack. A heavy tank can withstand more hits, but that does not always mean it should lead the advance. A faster vehicle can move around the enemy and force them to change position.

Eastern Front adds new tools for these decisions. Tactical cards and morale can strengthen attacks, movement, or defense, while some effects allow players to react directly to an opponent's actions. Smoke can conceal tanks and block lines of fire, while mines create another threat on the battlefield.

Morale cards are limited to three cards in hand. Their use therefore becomes part of the strategy rather than just an additional bonus. Sometimes it is better to save a powerful card for a decisive clash instead of spending it for a small advantage.

Who Is Tank Clash: Eastern Front For?

Tank Clash: Eastern Front should appeal to players looking for a compact tank strategy without turning the experience into a complex military simulation. Positioning, territorial control, and choosing the right moment to attack all matter. At the same time, dice, cards, and the battlefield create enough room for unexpected situations.

Tank Clash: Eastern Front is currently running a Kickstarter campaign. The project continues to expand the Tank Clash series with new tank types, battlefield elements, and ways for battles to unfold. The campaign also represents another step in expanding the series and its setting.

On the Eastern Front, an advance rarely goes according to plan. Tanks emerge from the forests, take positions around control points, and wait for the right moment to open fire. Somewhere, a Tiger II waits for the right opportunity to strike, while a T-34 tries to get around its flank. You can already experience this fight for the initiative on Tabletopia and decide which side will manage to turn the battle in its favor.
