Trial of the Gods is a new board game from Ludus Magnus Studio, created in the spirit of ancient Greek myths. Here, 2–4 players take on the roles of Argonauts. Across the vast expanse of the Aegean Sea, they must prove their valor and wisdom to earn the favor of the Olympian gods and claim their place in the Pantheon. Along the way, they face mythical creatures, and every decision shapes the destiny of their hero.
The story unfolds in a world inspired by the legends of Jason and the Golden Fleece. Each session challenges players to build their action deck, strengthen temple support, and gather more achievements than their rivals. A game typically lasts 60–90 minutes, depending on mode and player count.
Beyond maritime adventures, the game features an Olympic phase — a series of competitions where heroes display the abilities they’ve gained. The results of these contests directly influence the final scoring. Points come from exploration, victories, achievements, and Olympic standings, but what matters most is not the raw total — it’s each player’s placement within every category.

Deck-Building — the weapon of Zeus
Exploration and Combat — monsters versus Argonauts
The Olympics — the symbolic chaos of laurels
Each player begins with a captain miniature and a basic deck. Navigating the seas and islands, they may perform up to two actions per turn: move, explore, battle, recruit Argonauts, or appeal to the gods.
Deck-building lies at the heart of the experience — your personal deck determines your hero’s abilities and tactical options. Every turn presents choices: explore new islands, challenge monsters, or seek divine guidance.
Exploration requires precise symbol combinations on cards; the stronger the set, the greater the chance of making discoveries and earning rewards.
Combat blends card play with dice rolls, adding a touch of fate. Defeating creatures grants valuable spoils and the possibility of recruiting powerful allies. The vast bestiary includes iconic mythological foes whose downfall can alter the course of future challenges.
Players may also clash with one another, competing for control of the seas and the islands scattered across the archipelago.

On a dedicated Olympic board, captains participate in contests that test their strength, endurance, and skill. These events offer a direct path to earning laurel wreaths and shape the players’ final standings.
Strategic depth comes from choosing your path to glory. One hero may focus on exploration and the search for the Fleece; another may pursue raw combat power; a third may strive for Olympic renown. Finding the right balance among these routes is essential — excelling in one area doesn’t guarantee overall victory.
Divine decks add yet another dimension. Each deity grants unique powers — from boosting combat prowess to enhancing exploration. Smart timing and synergy allow players to craft powerful combinations and shift their strategy as the game unfolds.

Trial of the Gods captivates with its atmosphere and artwork. Beneath the vibrant presentation lies a deep and demanding system that rewards careful planning and thoughtful decisions. This is not a quick, casual tabletop experience — it is a strategic journey designed for players who appreciate character growth, tactical flexibility, and layered mechanics.
For fans of Greek mythology and deck-building games, it offers a true treasure. Recommended for ages 14 and up.
