The oldest representation of Senet is a painting found in a tomb, dating back to 2,650 BC. The oldest copies of the game date back to 3,100 BC.

Its name "Snt" in ancient Egyptian means "the passage", indicating the symbolic value of games in the Egypt of the pharaohs.
